Why does Beauty Queen Palin think One Nation ';Under God'; was written by the Founding Fathers?

11. Are you offended by the phrase “Under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance? Why or why not?

Palin: Not on your life. If it was good enough for the founding fathers, its good enough for me and I’ll fight in defense of our Pledge of Allegiance.

Should Palin go back to Beauty Queen School?

Oh. My. God. Giant hat tip to JLFinch's recommended diary: here's McCain's selection for the Vice Presidency of the United States, Sarah Palin, answering a 2006 policy questionnaire:

Q: Are you offended by the phrase ';Under God'; in the Pledge of Allegiance? Why or why not?

PALIN: Not on your life. If it was good enough for the founding fathers, its good enough for me and I’ll fight in defense of our Pledge of Allegiance

I don't even know what to say to that... I think the only possible response is a long, drawn out pause, followed by a vigorous beating of your head against the wall.

Fun facts: when John McCain's grandfather graduated from the Naval Academy in 1906, the Pledge of Allegiance, as first written, was only fourteen years old. It would not be made the official pledge of the United States until 1942, six years after John McCain himself was born.

When John McCain was born, the words ';Under God'; were not in the Pledge. They would not appear there until 1954, during McCain's senior year of high school.

Either McCain's graduating class included Ben Franklin and Thomas Jefferson (hey, maybe Palin will ask him), or McCain's own vice presidential candidate doesn't know a stick of history -- but still feels perfectly qualified to opine on it anyway. What a completely non-comforting thought. Why does Beauty Queen Palin think One Nation ';Under God'; was written by the Founding Fathers?
Because it goes under the basis of the founding of this country. The first document ever signed was the Mayflower Compact. This was a document that every one signed, in which they all agreed to live by certain moral values that where handed down from God. With out this law, the society would of been in anarchy.

That was the basic principle of the start of our country.
America was founded on Christian values and principles.

';If Americans need help understanding God then congress shall help them';-George Washington.George Washington also added so help me God to the end of the oath of office.

Palin is an excellent choice who unlike liberals actually says what she means and doesn't try to stutter and stammer her way through answers like Obama.
Unless she's extremely poorly educated she's probably aware that the Founding Fathers had nothing to do with it. The Pledge of Allegiance was written in 1892 by Francis Bellamy and the words ';Under God'; weren't added until 1954. Clearly Palin's not the one who needs to go back to school.
Palin is the best thing to happen to this election and this country will fall in love with her and she will help put McCain in the White House...it's already working in the polls. She is attracting the voters Obama has been unable to attract, the white working class male voters. And watching the Obama supporters that don't like her tickles me to death.
Yeah, I'm sure even Obama knows that ';Under God'; was added later to differentiate the US from the officially atheistic communist nations of the time.

I don't think she even went to beauty school with that hair-cut, but she might make a good living doing nails.
Perhaps she was refering to references to the Creator from the founding fathers and not to the pledge itself.
I see that are raise you ';57 states';.

The biggest difference is that one is for VP and one is for President...so you tell me which is worse.
Nice gaffe, yes she's an airhead.

I think the source is probably here:

not only that, but the pledge of allegiance was written by a socialist, and palin is defending it so ferociously!
No clue. Absolutely none. She is an embarassment to professional women everywhere.
She's a bimbo who doesn't know any better.

When I become President, I will change it to ';One nation, under Allah';.
Gidget goes to Washington. What worries me more is that she believes in Creationism. This woman is a walking Barbie doll.
haha the libs are scared of Palin. They can feel it all slipping away.
She an idiot
Why do you libs cry so much about Palin? Are you scared?
She's not very smart.
If that's true...nice catch!
What's the source? Where was this said?
